AHI is based in Lake Norman North Carolina and accepts grant proposals from recipients to provide funding to convert vacant commercial space or hotel rooms to affordable housing. It is estimated that 150,000,000 unoccupied hotel rooms exist according to research reprinted here from public documents from the National Association of Realtors (2021).
With nearly 14 years of 0% rates and a covid epidemic has resulted in commercial properties and suite hotels ( & hotels of all types) having been overbuilt with occupancy rates in some cases and areas near 50%.
